School is here

It is still hot in Texas but it is beginning to feel like Fall because it’s almost time for school to start. My wife (a special education teacher in Garland) went back today to prepare her room for the children next week. And I am getting ready for a new semester where I teach graduate courses in communication. And many of our AKaTo kids are preparing for a new academic year as well.

As we look forward to Fall events I am excited about the things we have in store. We just set the Fall AKaTo Tournament for October 31 (the only day we could get the Richardson YMCA). So we’ll just make it a Halloween event. I’ve ordered the really cool looking samurai statues for the adult black belt trophies so start practicing now.

The black belt continuing ed class will be on the second half of Won Kon Kata (we had the first half several months ago). The Kobudo class is going well and we look forward to a green belt test next year. For more info download a copy of the latest “Sidekick” newsletter on the home page if you haven’t already done so.

Even if you aren’t starting a new school year as a student or teacher in the next week or so, consider this season a time to renew your commitment to a deeper understanding of your martial arts. Learning can and should be a lifelong pursuit.
